Katwijk Beach Day

This past Wednesday a group of us decided to make the trek out to Katwijk again for a beach day, the same location that i visited earlier to see the dunes. After packing our backpacks with food and frisbee we headed out to the beach. The bike ride was very nice as we saw baby sheep and flowers along the way. Spent the day reading and playing frisbee with very little swimming as the water was so cold - Buns and Simone were the only ones brave enough to enter.
Returned at sunset to watch Manchester United defeat Porto in the UEFA Champions League.

Katwijk Beach Day

Klein Cronestein

On a warm Easter weekend we decided to bike to the nearby Klein Cronestein polder park. A polder is a natural lake that was drained to create more land, thus polder parks are usually a mixture of intricate canals, grazing land, and small patches of forest. We packed up some food, drinks, blankets, and a frisbee and headed out on our bikes to check it out. We were quite stunned by the beauty of the park, that was much larger than we had thought it would be. After exploring the park for a bit we decided to set up in a large sunned drenched grassy field. We spent most of the day basking in the sun, reading, playing frisbee, and eating - a whole different side of Holland that I didn't know existed after experiencing the freezing winter.
At a little before sunset we decided to pack up and explore a little bit more of the park. After following the path for a short while longer we ran into a small pathway running through some private gardens that was just too hard to pass by. The gardens our small private plots that people living in apartments without yards can rent - a very dutch system. We found a plethora of flowers and plants plus a tree house and a trampoline!
After grabbing some dinner we retired to our apartment for a quite night in. A great day.

PS We also went paint balling with the international student association the weekend before.
